Who Are We

VOICES, Voices Of Inspired Children Engaging Society, Ghana, is a child rights-based, community development organization. Through the use of the VOICES Empowerment model founded by Ahmeda Mansaray-Richardson, VOICES Ghana engages children, youth and their larger community to actively participate in improving the well-being of the community, ultimating working towards their ideal picture  of a developed and healthy community.

What We Believe

At our core, we believe in the Bold idea that young people are capable of making a positive impact on their world TODAY. This belief is integral to all we do. It is a starting point for all our partnerships, programs and projects. It is the sum total of all we have and seek to achieve.

Our Mission

We facilitates the empowerment journey of young people to enable their participation in solving the many challenges to sustainable development in their communities. We exist as a vehicle of empowerment, working with a model that encourages voice, promotes participation, and results in young changemakers believing that they can be the change they wish to see in their world.

The steps to accomplishing our mission include:

  • Creating a space where young people discover and learn to appreciate their unique " voices"
  • Providing innovative, child-friendly and integrated programs that enables them to engage in the process of personal and community change
  • Lobbying adults to give young people the opportunity to show the impact their capacity can have on their communties
  • Exploring, creating and solidifying opportunities for knowledge exchange and cross-cultural collaborations to encourage an appreciation and respect for the global impact of individual actions

VOICES Ghana (formerly Voices of the Voiceless Ghana) traces its roots to May 2006, when Ahmeda Mansaray-Richardson, the current Executive Director was inspired by her Master's research on Childhood Sexual Abuse, to create an organization that would recognize, encourage and enhance the capacity of young people. Within fifteen months from when the idea was born, the founding team including Ms Nana Adwoa Owusu-Achaw, a young Ghanaian university graduate,  Barabara Kelly, a Canadain International Development Agency intern, as well as a dedicated Board of Directors, Mr. Ladi Nylander, Ms. Betty Akuffo-Amoabeng, and Ms. Sarah-Lynn Nuno-Mansaray, successfully Incorporated the NGO. Hitting the ground running, this team began the work that is now 6 program initiatives with impact on over 500 young Ghanaian lives.
