social-changemake internship Program

This internship finds its purpose in the dearth of high-potential opportunities for high school graduates and or college students. Designed as with a 220 or 400 hour long internship, a maximum of 6 young people from this demographic with a demonstrable passion for their community and an interest in personal growth are recruited annually.  Program participants are usually interns from local post secondary institutions looking for work experience to position them strategically in the work force on graduation. They are engaged in a process based on our empowerment model that walks with them to develop entrepreneurial skills as well as core skills necessary to thrive in the professional world. A key feature of this program is the requirement of the fellow to work alongside one of our partner organizations serving in a community adversely impacted by poverty or other socioeconomic disadvantages. This opportunity allows them to not only develop skills that allows them to make empathetic connections within their own stories and the stories of others marginalized by access. The intern is matched with a mentor who commits to working with VOICES to help the intern transition align with their passions and translate the skills they are honing into future academic or professional success.

The SELF Empowerment INTERNSHIP program

The Self- Empowerment program is offered to young adults 18-28 yrs old who are in the early stages of their careers. The Self- Empowerment program focuses on developing  self-assessment skills, improving self-advocacy and efficacy, developing leadership build blocks to enable personal development.  This program is designed to be experiential cultivating life-long skills necessary for self-development and success. It is anchored in the premise that one of the most effective ways of building capacity is by providing a forum for an individual to actively develop and hone their own talents and a set of transferable skills.

Evaluation Matrix

Participants in the first month of their programs are taught how to design personal action plans, logic models and monitoring and evaluation strategies for their own progress. In addition they are evaluated on their commitment to develop their capacities, their growth in self-directed learning and how effectively they have integrated into their practice the VOICES building blocks to leadership. Evaluation is ongoing with a weekly feedback mechanism in place to ensure that change is measurable, recorded and maximized.
